GEOPOLYMER LINING

Geopolymer Lining

Spiniello Companies performs spray lining for Geopolymer which is used to rehabilitate large diameter pipes of 36-inch to 240-inch for sanitary and storm sewer systems. Using engineer designed calculations, Spiniello crews can rehabilitate aging and deteriorating pipes by applying geopolymer material and structural thicknesses. The application material covers and protects the pipe surface by filling in voids, cracks, and other defects while also restoring joints. Geopolymer spray lining extends the life of the host pipe while providing corrosion resistance and eliminating infiltration. Service life is 50-years+ depending on the site conditions.

Spiniello’s Geopolymer process

Geopolymer concrete is considered to be an innovative material that is a viable alternative to traditional Portland concrete or cement used for various rehabilitation projects. It is very resistant to several of the durability issues that can cause traditional concretes to crack and crumble. This is accomplished by using minimally processed natural materials or industrial byproducts. Geopolymer concrete will cure more quickly than Portland concrete and will obtain most of its strength within 24 hours.

Benefits of Geopolymer

  • Strength. Higher compressive and flexural strength than that of ordinary concrete. The properties of geopolymer also provide for a rapid strength gain and cures very quickly, making this technology an excellent option for efficiency and production builds.

  • Limited Bypass: internal bypass or limited bypass setup time which allows systems to be reinstated faster. Flows can usually be put back on the pipe within a few hours depending on conditions.

  • Spray Option: by mechanical sled or handheld depending on specific site conditions.

  • Resistance to Heat and Cold: Geopolymer can remain stable at extreme high or cold temperatures. Excessive heat can reduce the stability of conventional concrete causing it to spall or have layers break off. Geopolymer is also resistant to freezing and will not crack.

  • Chemical and Acid Resistance: Geopolymer has a strong chemical resistance. Acids, toxic waste, and salt water will not have an effect on geopolymer. Corrosion will not likely occur with this material unlike Portland cement.

  • Steel not needed: the use of reinforcement of WWM or steel rebar is not needed unless called for in the engineering design dependent on the existing pipe condition.

Applications: Sanitary Sewers, Storm Sewers, Combined Interceptors, Manholes
