VALUE ENGINEERING / DESIGN-BUILD

ONE TEAM,
ONE VISION
At Spiniello, Value Engineering is a core part of our approach to delivering high-performing, cost-effective projects. By systematically evaluating project functions, we identify opportunities to optimize costs without compromising quality, safety, or performance. With extensive experience in trenchless technologies, Spiniello is adept at Value Engineering the most efficient and cost-effective way to approach our infrastructure projects.
Our process emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and function-driven analysis to uncover alternatives in materials, methods, and design that enhance efficiency and align more closely with our clients’ goals. With a proven track record of successful project delivery, we bring the experience and insight needed to evaluate options and implement solutions that deliver greater value both in performance and in cost.
-
Integrating Value Engineering early in the project lifecycle yields numerous benefits including:
Cost Savings: Identifies potential cost-saving opportunities by evaluating alternative materials, methods, and processes.
Risk Reduction: Minimizes the likelihood of costly change orders and delays later in the project.
Optimized Performance: Balances cost, quality, and schedule to meet the client’s needs and expectations effectively.
Innovation: Encourages creative, function-driven solutions that deliver maximum value for the investment.
Satisfied Clients: Results in client satisfaction by savings costs, reducing time, and exceeding expectations.
A COLLABORATIVE
DELIVERY APPROACH
Project owners are increasingly turning to the design-build delivery method to promote innovation, foster collaboration, and achieve the best overall value. Unlike traditional delivery methods, design-build integrates the designer and contractor from the outset, creating a unified team that remains aligned throughout the project’s entire lifecycle. This partnership ensures that financial, technical, and operational goals are addressed in a cohesive and efficient manner.
As an experienced design-build contractor, Spiniello works hand-in-hand with designers, engineers, and subcontractors through every phase of the project—from qualifications and proposal development to design, permitting, and construction. Early team formation allows for enhanced cost certainty, faster project timelines, and the integration of real-world construction insight into the design process. The result is improved constructability, better risk management, and greater value for the owner.
-
Compared to the traditional design-bid-build method, Design-Build offers several distinct advantages:
Accelerated Schedules
Best-Value Decision Making
Managed Risk for Owners
Improved Quality Control and Assurance
Encouragement of Innovation
Enhanced Cost Certainty
-
Collaboration is more than a principle—it’s a practice. At Spiniello, we believe that successful projects require a project-first mindset, open communication, and a commitment to teamwork at every level. Through early engagement and continuous dialogue, we empower owners to benefit from the collective expertise of all stakeholders. Our collaborative approach leads to smarter design, safer jobsites, accelerated delivery, and better outcomes. In addition to construction, our capabilities include design and permitting coordination, quality assurance and control, and public outreach—all performed with safety, performance, and partnership in mind.
-
Under the CMAR model, the owner separately retains a design firm and a CMAR firm typically when design is underway or nearly complete. This method allows the owner to benefit from aspects of Design-Build while retaining direct oversight of design development. Engaging the CMAR early helps optimize technical performance, constructability, value management, and risk mitigation.
Fixed-Price Design-Build
In this model, the owner contracts with a single entity responsible for both design and construction. The owner outlines project requirements and performance goals, and the integrated design-build team develops conceptual designs and a fixed price to deliver the project. Any changes are managed collaboratively by the entire team, encouraging problem-solving and innovation—without blame or delays.Progressive Design-Build
This two-phase delivery method begins with the collaborative development of project design, cost estimates, schedule, and the Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) or fixed price. If the owner and design-builder agree to move forward based on these terms, final design, construction, and commissioning occur in the second phase—ensuring flexibility and alignment throughout the project.
