The Challenge: DC Water discovered that two major interceptor lines beneath Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB) were at imminent risk of collapse due to severe corrosion and erosion from converging sanitary lines. These lines handle up to 900-million gallons per day (MGD) during peak wet weather, making immediate action before the next winter season imperative.
Spiniello’s Quick Response: DC Water called upon Spiniello’s DC Team to tackle the urgent situation. Spiniello swiftly took action by removing earth from above the damaged pipes for inspection and repairs, and then stabilizing the compromised pipes to prevent collapse.Spiniello created a diversion channel using sheet piles to reroute wastewater flows for upcoming repairs. With this diversion channel in place, a proprietary lining system was installed to provide a durable solution for the interceptor line’s long-term stability.
