This project entailed installing Geopolymer spray lining within 7,673-feet of a 78-inch diameter Reinforced Concrete Pipe combined sewer, which runs parallel to the Raccoon River in downtown Des Moines. The project scope encompassed sewer bypass, sewer cleaning, and debris disposal, as well as the replacement of aluminum hatches and sluice gates.
Spiniello's biggest challenge was preparing the severely corroded concrete pipe to receive the Geopolymer lining. This was accomplished by fabricating a specialty brusher head to remove corrosion, followed by high pressure jetting of the pipe surface. To reduce the impact of construction traffic on the existing levees, a conveyor system was created to move the lining material from the mixing site to the lining team in the pipe. accomplished by fabricating a specialty brusher head to remove corrosion followed by high pressure jetting of the pipe surface.
