Safety
At Spiniello, we consider accident prevention to be an integral part of every operation. In fact, we are continually looking for new ways to maintain the highest levels of jobsite safety. Our goal is to protect employees against occupational injuries and illnesses, prevent damage to personal property and reduce the financial risks of inefficiency. We want to be productive — and safe.
Our Safety Program includes a comprehensive set of resources for maintaining a safe and healthy working environment. We provide a range of safety training for our employees, open our jobsites to periodic safety inspections and document our safety policies.
Safety Training
Employees at Spiniello receive ongoing safety training, which begins with a safety orientation on their first day of work. The "on-the-job" training takes place at the start of each work day, where supervisors review the potential hazards of the day and environmental conditions — like extreme heat or cold — that could lead to illness or injury. In addition, weekly "toolbox talks" give work teams a chance to discuss safety topics that are relevant for a particular jobsite.
Our safety training also includes one- and two-day safety courses, led by our onsite safety trainers and expert safety consultants.
Employees can learn about:
- Confined spaces
- Reasonable suspicion
- Trenching and shoring
- First aid/CPR
- Respirator protection
- Defensive driving
- Hazardous communication
- Work zone safety
- First aid/CPR
- Safety Inspections
To promote a safe work environment, Spiniello opens up each jobsite for periodic safety inspections. Our safety manager, insurance broker and insurance carrier perform on-site health and safety inspections, and report the findings to our board for review. Loss records are compiled and reviewed with the jobsite safety team to identify the appropriate methods for recourse.
In addition, Spiniello has worked with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) through their On-Site Consultation service. This enabled us to find out about potential hazards at our worksites and strengthen our employee safety program.
Safety Policies
Spiniello has documented safety policies within a Health and Safety Program Handbook, which provides a framework for safety across all of our operations. Additional safety instructions may be issued by the project manager or owner, along with local, state or federal safety regulations that apply to a specific jobsite. Supervisors are responsible for ensuring that their employees, subcontractors and any other subordinates comply with all safety policies for a jobsite.
Spiniello is also committed to providing a drug- and alcohol-free workplace. We conduct pre-placement, random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident and return-to-duty testing.
With our Safety Program, we respect the dangers inherent in the construction industry — and believe that all accidents and injuries are preventable. Employee safety matters to us, most of all.
